meet your therapist: AMY KOVACS, LPCC, NCC
Hey, I’m Amy.
I’m a child and teen therapist who helps kids feel understood, parents feel supported, and families find a steadier path forward.
MY APPROACH
Supporting Kids & Parents
My approach is warm, relational, and tailored to each child and family. With younger children, I use play and creative expression to help them process their world in a way that feels natural and safe.
With older kids and teens, I incorporate tools from cognitive-behavioral therapy while still prioritizing connection and trust. I also work closely with parents, offering insight and practical support so you feel more confident in how to help your child outside of sessions.
A little more about me
What made you want to become a therapist?
Because therapy changed my life. After doing my own deep work in therapy over the years, I saw firsthand how much healing and growth can happen when you have a space to be known, supported, and challenged in the right ways. At some point, I realized I wanted to offer that to other people, too.
Why do you enjoy working with kids and families?
I’ve worked with kids, teens, and young adults for years, so that part felt natural. Then I became a parent and thought, Oh wow… this is beautiful and exhausting, and nobody really knows what they’re doing all the time. That pretty much sealed it. I love helping kids feel understood, and I especially love supporting parents who are trying really hard and just need some backup.
What’s it like to work with you?
Warm, collaborative, and very human. I show up, I engage, and I genuinely care. With kids, that often means play, creativity, and helping them feel safe enough to be themselves. With parents, it means insight, encouragement, and practical ideas that actually feel doable in real life.
What do you believe about kids?
That behavior always has a story. Kids usually aren’t trying to be hard—they’re having a hard time. I love helping adults make sense of what’s underneath the behavior so everyone can move forward with more understanding and less shame.
What are you like outside of work?
I’m happiest with sunshine, mountain views, coffee, and time with my people. When I’m not working, I’m usually catching up with friends over coffee, exercising, tackling some kind of DIY project around the house, or winding down by the fire pit with my husband and son.
Commitment to Growth
I hold ongoing learning as an essential part of my work and believe meaningful growth as a clinician continues well beyond graduate school. In addition to my formal training, I have completed over 50 hours of specialized play therapy education and continue to pursue advanced learning that deepens the care I offer to children and families.
I am also a National Certified Counselor (NCC), a voluntary national credential that reflects a commitment to excellence in the counseling profession. This certification represents advanced academic preparation, successful completion of a rigorous national examination, supervised clinical experience, and adherence to high ethical and professional standards.
